ABOUT
Eppes Cemetery was created in 1836 by Ballard Finch Eppes as a private family burial ground for members of the Eppes, Finch, Cates, Ford, and Simpson families. This multigenerational cemetery is the final resting place for more than 200 individuals, beginning with the burial of Ballard’s infant daughter, Judith Elizabeth Eppes, in 1837 and continuing even today with the interment of Leland E. Kelly, great-grandson of Edna Alexander Jones Cates Tucker, on June 24, 2023.
The care and maintenance of Eppes is made possible through the ongoing work of the cemetery’s board of directors, dozens of caring volunteers, and the generous financial donations of people dedicated to preserving this historic site. The Eppes Cemetery Corporation is a 501 (c) 13 nonprofit corporation. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
Thanks to a generous private donation, we are currently working to clean and repair the headstones at Eppes. Some of our before-and-after photos are posted on the Gallery page.
